Lesson one - Making accordion books

Numeracy / REVIEW:
 
-Uses a variety of manipulatives to # 10.
 
Resources: (materials for each activity)
Activity 1:
Part one:
-Accordion- paper booklets.
 
-Bingo Markers.
 
-Pencils.
 
-Use dice that has dots or/and numbers.
 
Supporting activity 1 (WHOLE):
 
-Flash cards of multiple images such as an apple, a wheel, a bee…etc. (from 1-7).
 
-Wight smart board.
 
-The song “1littlte finger tap, tap, tap , point it to the ceiling, point it to the floor and put it in your lap.…”.
 
 -A small board +markers, blue tack.
 
-Flash cards that have the digit on.
Supporting activity 2 (2nd WHOLE):
 
2 children from high group.
 
2 children from low group.
 
Samples of children’s products of the desert seen.
 
-The song “1,2,3”.
 
Supporting activities differentiated to three ability levels: (where possible)
Description of whole group activity 1: Time_10-15___minutes___

-Greet the children- and emphasis the classroom rules (good sitting , look at the teacher,…).
 
-Review the week’s outcomes.
 
-Use visual aids (pictures) of many objects to represent the value.(By asking questions).
 
-Ask certain children to match the digit to the value. (e.g. 1-@ / 2-@@ / 3-@@@ / …..etc).
 
-praise children who participated with stickers.

Differentiation: (Mainly by asking questions):
 
High: Match numbers from (6-7).
Mid: Match numbers from (3-5).
Low: Match numbers from (1-4).
 
Small Group Activities: Time__20 minutes____
Description of activity 1:
PART ONE: Monitored by____MCT______
 
The aim of this activity is to match the value with the digit and it is a differentiated product for high and low groups.
 
Differentiation: (asking questions and evaluate the product):
 
High: Do thump print/s to represent the value under the number (1-10) in an A4 sheet which has columns of digits from 1-10.
 
Mid: Do thump print/s to represent the value under the number (1-6) in an A4 sheet which has columns of digits from 1-6.
 
Low: Use the bingo markers to represent the value of the digit in each page of the accordion booklet.
 
The teacher will model each activity of both High and Low groups.
 
The teacher may ask children to write their names on the back of their work if they can (and she will dote their names if they can’t).
 
Some guided question  and instructions may occur during this activity such as:
 
-Find number …3 or 1 or ..etc.
-How many prints you need to do?
-Show me number 5 or 3 or 2 – use your fingers.

Description of closing activity:

-The teacher asks the children who did the activity with her to get up and show their works and talk about it. (2 children from the high group and 2 children from the low group).
 
-The teacher gathers children in the circle area and sing the song “ 1,2,3”.
 
-The teacher praises the children who took part on this activity with stickers.

This lesson is a review to the numerical outcome above but the only different aspect is that the activities are new to children as they are not been presented to children before.
 
Recommendations / future personal targets / areas of focus for next week
 
It is recommended to model the activity for the children step by step in order to avoid any mistakes in the final product. Because the children may understand the second language difficultly and because it may take them longer time to complete that task. Occasionally, some Arabic may be used during all phases of the lesson.
